Meet Frank

It’s not every day you see a pig wandering the streets of Detroit, but that’s exactly where Frank found himself—roaming through neighborhoods in a big, unfamiliar city. So how did he end up in such a predicament?

Many Detroit residents, like those in other major cities, have embraced urban farming, often incorporating farmed animals like chickens and potbellied pigs into their community gardens. Unfortunately, these animals are not legally permitted in many areas, and their owners often receive citations. When faced with the challenge of rehoming animals like chickens and pigs—who require specialized care—some owners feel they have no choice but to set them free.

Frank was likely a victim of this unfortunate reality, abandoned when his owner could no longer keep him. His story is not unique, and it highlights an ongoing issue that needs more attention to prevent other animals from facing the same fate.

Thankfully, Frank’s journey led him to safety at SASHA Farm, where he has finally found his forever home. Now, he spends his days living the good life—rooting for bugs, lounging in the wallow, snuggling with his pals, and soaking up the sunshine.
