Vegan Chili Cook-Off

We are very excited to host the first SASHA Farm Vegan Chili Cook-Off!
We count among our supporters some amazing cooks, so we expect some
first-rate vegan chili!
When: Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 2 PM. Tasting
and judging begins at 2:30. Winners will be announced at 5 PM.
Where: SASHA Farm Animal Sanctuary, 17901 Mahrle
Road, Manchester, MI
Admission is $20 for adults and $5 for kids ages 4 -12. Admission
includes chili tasting, condiments and sides, a tour, live music,
plus the chance to cast a ballot for your favorite chili.
Local celebrity judges include Michigan Radio and WGTE's Jack
Lessenberry, Tonya Pavement of The Glass
City Rollers, and Cold Fusion of the Detroit Derby
Girls!
Musical entertainment provided by The Lovemenauts!
The cook off will end with a bonfire at dusk. Bring your own vegan
snacks and drinks.
* While we always discourage visitors from
bringing dogs to our events, there will be absolutely no
visiting dogs allowed at this or any event in the next
few months due to the parvo outbreak in our state. Thank you for
understanding.

SASHA Farm’s 2009 Chili Cook-off
Rules and Registration Information
Registrants must drop off or e-mail completed registration form
and fee by August 28, 2009. Registration fee is $10 per individual
per entry or $20 per team/group per entry. Each contestant will
receive a surprise gift for entering!
RULES:
1. All chili must be vegan, containing no animal products (i.e.
meat, fish, dairy products, honey, etc.) This includes meat or poultry-based
stocks and seasonings.
2. All chili must be prepared in advance from raw ingredients by
the contestant. No pre-packed mixes or sauces are permitted in the
entries with the exception of vegan meat analogs.
3. A list of ingredients must be available for each entry.
4. Contestants must be willing to taste their own chili.
5. All contestants should arrive no later than 1PM to set up, and
be ready to serve by 2PM.
6. Contestants (or someone authorized by the contestant) must be
in attendance to serve chili for the entire period.
7. Contestants must provide a minimum of 3 gallons of chili for
tasting. (Keep in mind that the more chili you bring, the more people
will have an opportunity to taste your chili, and the more potential
votes you could receive.) Contestants must also provide any condiments
that they consider an ingredient in their recipe. Otherwise, recipes
will be judged condiment-free.
8. All contestants must provide their own ladles, pots, heating
apparatus and required extension cords.
Contestants are responsible for cleaning up their own area upon
contest completion.
JUDGING and PRIZES:
Entries will be judged by a panel of offical judges and by the tasters
in attendance. Each judge will cast one vote in each category, and
the results of the Crowd Favorite will be counted as one vote for
the Best Overall. You may enter in as many categories as are applicable.
Everyone will be entered categories marked with *. Prizes will be
awarded for the winner of each category. Prizes will be announced
on our website.
