UPCOMING EVENTS: Calendar

Vegan Chili Cook-Off 2009

We are very excited to host the first SASHA Farm Vegan Chili Cook-Off! We count among our supporters some amazing cooks, so we expect some first-rate vegan chili!

When: Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 2 PM. Tasting and judging begins at 2:30. Winners will be announced at 5 PM.

Where: SASHA Farm Animal Sanctuary, 17901 Mahrle Road, Manchester, MI

Admission is $20 for adults and $5 for kids ages 4 -12. Admission includes chili tasting, condiments and sides, a tour, live music, plus the chance to cast a ballot for your favorite chili.

Local celebrity judges include Michigan Radio and WGTE's Jack Lessenberry, Tonya Pavement of The Glass City Rollers, and Cold Fusion of the Detroit Derby Girls!

Musical entertainment provided by The Lovemenauts!

The cook off will end with a bonfire at dusk. Bring your own vegan snacks and drinks.

* While we always discourage visitors from bringing dogs to our events, there will be absolutely no visiting dogs allowed at this or any event in the next few months due to the parvo outbreak in our state. Thank you for understanding.

RULES:

1. All chili must be vegan, containing no animal products (i.e. meat, fish, dairy products, honey, etc.) This includes meat or poultry-based stocks and seasonings.

2. All chili must be prepared in advance from raw ingredients by the contestant. No pre-packed mixes or sauces are permitted in the entries with the exception of vegan meat analogs.

3. A list of ingredients must be available for each entry.

4. Contestants must be willing to taste their own chili.

5. All contestants should arrive no later than 1PM to set up, and be ready to serve by 2PM.

6. Contestants (or someone authorized by the contestant) must be in attendance to serve chili for the entire period.

7. Contestants must provide a minimum of 3 gallons of chili for tasting. (Keep in mind that the more chili you bring, the more people will have an opportunity to taste your chili, and the more potential votes you could receive.) Contestants must also provide any condiments that they consider an ingredient in their recipe. Otherwise, recipes will be judged condiment-free.

8. All contestants must provide their own ladles, pots, heating apparatus and required extension cords.
Contestants are responsible for cleaning up their own area upon contest completion.
