Sadly, we’ve lost three much loved cows this winter.
We lost Elsie, everyone’s favorite Holstein girl, in late December after a a long battle with cancer and brief one with pneumonia. She was 20 years old. Elsie is dearly missed by everyone here, human and bovine alike. Â She is survived by her daughter, Flo.
Lash passed away in late February. She was 19 years old. Lash was shy with human visitors, but was an important part of her bovine family group. She arrived with two sisters and a possible nephew and shortly after she arrived, her son Ferdinand was born. She is survived by Ferdinand, her nephew Red, and one sister, Baby.
Arnold, our enormous but gentle Holstein steer, died suddenly earlier this month of unexplained causes. He was young, strong, and active right up until the morning of his passing. He leaves behind his best friend, Puppy, who came with him to the sanctuary three years ago.
While the loss of the two elderly girls was not entirely unexpected, so many losses so close together has been difficult for everyone. Please keep the cows in your thoughts as they adjust to life without Lash, Elsie and Arnie.
