SASHA Farm welcomed three new Shetland sheep to the herd this week! They are a family group, a mother, father and their grown son. Unlike so many of the animals here at the sanctuary, these three don’t come with a very sad story. No one hurt or abused them; in fact, they were the abusers!
The two boys are, to put in mildly, a little assertive. They challenge everyone that comes into their enclosure by rearing up and butting. I’m sure you can imagine that this behavior did not endear them to the children in their last home.
It is our hope that joining a bigger herd in a larger pasture will calm them down a bit, or at least that our more passive sheep will have a positive influence on them. In the meantime, well, it’s a good thing they’re small.

Should I find some football pads to wear the next time I come up? =P
BAAAD RAAAAP!
Okay… I have to STRONGLY disagree with this post. I hung out with these three (before I’d heard they were allegedly aggressive) for quite a while on Tuesday, March 24th, and all three of these beauties are ANGELS! :[
The mother is a little shy, but will come to you if you sit and patiently let her, and she gently takes treats from your hand. Dad (brown sheep) is friendlier than the majority of the sheep I’ve met, and…
the youngster is nothing short of AFFECTIONATE.
He gives the softest little sheep smooches to my nose, and several gentle nudges to my face with the top of his head.
I’m already madly in love with him…. don’t tell Mainard.
No football pads needed, as funny as it would be to see you in them, Sarah! =p
Honeymoon period, Kelli!
I didn’t know they were rammy until after I walked in to take pictures, and I have the bruises to prove that they were not only exceptionally outgoing, but really hard-headed, too. I think they’re going to be fun sheep to have around, and I kind of hope they don’t mellow out completely.
They ARE super cute and the baby (Thor?) is very friendly. BUT! He gave Wayne a decent head butt when we turned to leave the pasture.
He didn’t want him to leave.
Is this the same baby who, after I sat down, came and put his head in my lap, nuzzled into my hands and almost fell asleep standing up? Hee!
bipolar sheep!
they have added alot of personality to the farm….love the name “thor.” or maybe it should be “ram!” just saying………

Fine, fine. All this negativity has tainted him so much he took a crack at ME last week.
I snapped a picture of him and turned my attention elsewhere, juuuust for a moment…..
I wish I could upload a picture of my leg. It is RIDICULOUSLY bruised. Huge. Two of them. One for each horn. Complete with knots inside.
Hmmmphf! LOL!
(he’s still adorable, tho)
