Is Precious still in need of a sponsor? I asked my husband to let me sponsor a pig from here or Farm Sanctuary in NY, for my "Christmas present" this year. I was first involved with Farm Sanctuary, but just found your SASHA farm this week. I am from Illinois, so Michigan is like our neighbor. :) Thank you for all you do for the animals!

here's an idea from one of your fostermoms regarding the geese at Sasha farm: " I don't know if the farm could use the technique of our pool (they didn't get the geese and ducks in the baby pool, just like Frank wouldn't go into ours) but if you are ever in contact with them it is pretty easy to dig a hole about 12 inches deep 6 feet round and just use a shower curtain....cheap!"

"frank" is the goose she is rehabbing. she also told me it's easy to clean--lift the shower curtain; the dirty water flows into the ground; replace the plastic; and refill the water.

you can do this. everyone thinks there is a perfect home out there for a young energetic dog, but yours is most likely the best available for him. he's close to two now, and will start settling down. i, a single working middle-aged woman, got a 3 mo australian shepherd from my son whose landlord would not allow dogs. i walked her over a mile ea. morn, enclosed her in the kitchen with a 2 in. marrow bone from the butcher's which i microwaved a couple mins on a paper towel to get rid of some of the fat, and left a new one or an day old one with peanut butter in it every morning. after work i walked her 3-4 miles (which actually revived me more than collapsing on the couch, or eating or vegging out somewhere.) gave her another mile long walk before bed, and that was our workday routine. as she got older i could cut down on the length of walks. (i used a 26 ft. flexi leash which gives a dog a lot more exercise than a standard 6 ft. leash.) she never did one destructive thing to my kitchen, she had a good window to watch out of, and some toys, but mostly chewed that bone. she was the best dog i ever had in a lifetime of dogs.
the exercise was good for me too, and established an active habit for me. i'm older now and do not have the weight or health problems of my friends. i owe it to her, because i would not have developed that discipline without her. do it for your dog, and for yourself. keeping him will be beneficial to you. you would regret giving him to a shelter. trust me.

Dearest Sam: I was SO hoping that you were going to be able to spend a couple of happy years at the Farm when I wrote to Dorothy of your availability. And then she/they actually choose you to come and join the Farm! I was SO elated.

Sadly, that was not to be the case for long. Although I know that you had the love and support of many during your last months of lucky Farm life I still am sorry that it was for such a short time.

I'm so sorry that I never got to meet you but know that I think of you.

Love and hugs at the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.......jan

I am soooo thrilled to hear that Sam seems on the road to recovery! He's such a joy, even if he is a thief (of course, that's part of his charm!)! I can't remember any other dog fitting in so well and so quickly. May you enjoy a long, happy life at Sasha Farm!!!

Comment from Dorothy, who is having a great time in India right now:

Thanks for the great blog Amanda. Even though India is amazing, I feel like I'm missing out on all the fun. :( The photos make me miss Monte, John, you and all the special volunteers, but I know I can take this trip feeling secure that everyone will be safe at Sasha Farm. See you soon, hug everyone for me (except for Monte).

Namaste, Dorothy
