By popular demand, Chicken Fried Tofu!

This was one of the best dishes from this past Sunday’s work party potluck. Thanks, Sarah, for sharing the recipe!

1 block tofu, drained and sliced
2-3 Tbs sesame seeds
2-3 Tbs olive oilor as needed
2 Tbs tamari (we used Braggs)
1/2 c nutritional yeast

Heat oil in skillet. Add sesame seeds. While the seeds are heating, dredge tofu slices through nutritional yeast until both sides are generously coated. When seeds start to sizzle, put tofu in skillet. Drizzle tamari over the top. When crispy and brown, flip over and fry the other side until crispy.

The author recommends using an electric skillet at 300, and frying for 30-40 min, but we don’t have one, so we pan fried about 10 min per side. You may need more oil than 3 Tbs.

I got the recipe from a cookbook called Heart of the Home by Ann Jackson. If anyone is looking for southern eats, vegan style, this book has lots of cool recipes, including fried green tomatoes and several kinds of gravy.

Sarah, what type of tofu did you use? I know you told me, but I forgot!

    Extra firm!
